About
Why
Flavors of Resistance supports, celebrates, and protects the rich heritage of communities that have been forced, through generations of systemic injustice, to fight for their survival and identity. In a world marked by colonization, exploitation, and cultural erasure, the food and traditions of Indigenous and historically oppressed communities are often weaponized against them. These cultural elements are frequently appropriated, diminished, or erased by those in power.
Yet we live and work to unite people in the pursuit of a more just and hopeful future. Preserving these culinary treasures while sharing diverse stories of resistance becomes an act of solidarity and defiance, reclaiming identity and resisting erasure. Honoring and sharing these flavors of resistance serves as a pathway toward our goal: a future grounded in understanding, healing, and justice. We aim to create awareness, build community, and inspire action for collective liberation.
How
Through fundraising cooking workshops, Flavors of Resistance gathers people around the dinner table. Led by members of our volunteer collective, each workshop offers traditional recipes and personal stories of enduring resistance. In this way, we facilitate a space to reflect, connect, and share a delicious self-cooked meal.
A safe and welcoming environment is ensured, where allies and friends can come together to support resilient communities. At the same time, they deepen their understanding of the challenges these communities face and the ongoing injustices in our world.
What
Our current workshops focus on the flavors and resistance of Palestine and Lebanon, creating a sense of community and opening conversations about the multifaceted path to freedom. As we grow, we plan to include the foods and stories of other communities leading the way toward collective liberation. Participants can join public workshops or arrange private sessions, with all proceeds directly supporting the causes we champion.
